This festive Black Forest Trifle layers rich chocolate cake, cherry compote, chocolate pudding, and whipped cream into a stunning holiday dessert fit for a crowd.

Ingredients

  • 1 chocolate cake or brownies, cubed

  • 2 cups dark sweet cherries (fresh, frozen, or canned)

  • 23 tbsp sugar

  • 12 tbsp Kirsch or cherry liqueur (optional)

  • 2 cups chocolate pudding or custard

  • 2 cups heavy cream

  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Chocolate curls and cherries for garnish

Instructions

  • Bake and cube chocolate cake or brownies. Let cool.

  • In a saucepan, simmer cherries with sugar and Kirsch for 5–10 mins. Cool.

  • Make or chill chocolate pudding.

  • Whip cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.

  • In a trifle dish, layer: cake, cherries, pudding, whipped cream. Repeat.

  • Top with chocolate curls and whole cherries.

  • Chill at least 4 hours or overnight.

Notes

  • Make alcohol-free by using cherry juice.

  • Use coconut cream and vegan pudding for a dairy-free version.

  • Serve chilled with a long spoon for easy scooping.
