This easy one-pot cheeseburger orzo skillet combines savory ground beef, creamy orzo pasta, and melty cheddar cheese in a comforting weeknight dinner — ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small yellow onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 cup orzo pasta

  • 1½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)

  • 1 tbsp ketchup (optional)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional toppings: pickles, diced tomato, shredded lettuce

Instructions

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and sauté onion for 3–4 minutes until soft.

  • Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

  • Brown ground beef, breaking it apart, until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.

  • Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire, ketchup, and mustard. Cook for 1 minute.

  • Add orzo and beef broth. Stir to combine. Bring to a simmer.

  • Cover and cook on low heat for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until orzo is tender.

  • Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese until melted.

  • Let rest uncovered for 3–5 minutes. Garnish and serve.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or chicken as a leaner alternative.

  • Add diced pickles or fresh tomato on top for a cheeseburger finish.

  • Store leftovers in the fridge for 3–4 days or freeze up to 2 months.
